PC vs Mac
God I hate the arrogance of the people behind the Mac adverts, most of them are simply lies of exaggerations. It’s ridiculous and petty, it’s just another attempt at Apple to try and be cool and trendy. I guess I would be trying to do something as well if the total share of the market that I have was 2%. Now I’m not saying Macs are crap, they’re not, I just hate the pompous adverts they are pumping out, as if Mac can do everything and PCs are stuck using MSOffice for fun. Just like a pc, they have things which they are good at. But most of it is largely software based, meaning I can get the same sort of thing, on a very powerful machine for a third of the price. And let’s not even talk about trying to run a video game on a Mac.
The problem with the ads showing PCs being used for real work and Macs being “so much fun” is that they reinforce the stereo type Mac user, the slacker kids who spend their time making crappy videos using their webcam. It’s these sorts of stereotypes that make most people think twice about owning a Mac.

Yeah, I always thought those commercials should have ended halfway through with the “boring, stuff” old PC going, “You know what? Screw this. I’m going to go play Halo.”

I am suprised that there hasn’t been a Windows retaliation campaign. I mean half of the stuff that macs say about PCs is outdated and false, and most of it is just arrogant specalation. I find the whole arrogance of Apple disgusting, especially when I spend 45 minutes trying to access their website - “It just works” - My arse does it.

I was in class one day and lo and behold, a guy with a macbook starts to look up games on gamespot. So I’m like lulz, games on a mac?
November 29th, 2007 at 10:17 am
I think that there not a retaliation campaign cause with 98% of the market does that kind of add deserve a response.

Wow. Sour grapes. You’re right of course about the arrogance of the earlier Ads. But the updated ones don’t say they do what PCs CAN’T do, only that it is so much easier. You just get right into it and start working. No matter how much you hate the Mac personality there isn’t any argument that will work against that. Macs are easier period.
Mike: I would suggest that either you had an issue with your connection when you experienced your 45 minute delay, or - horrors - Apple can sometimes have downtime on their website like every other site in the world.
Let’s bash Apple. It’s so easy when you just alter facts to suit yourselves.

ummm… worst.comic.ever. right-click? I am sitting on a mac right now and right-clicking to my hearts content. This comic was funny in 1994.
November 30th, 2007 at 8:42 pm
oh - and as amusing as the original comic above is, you might want to peg that as being outdated since not only has Mac been compatible with two (and more) button mice for the past 8 years, but has been shipping with it’s own two button mouse for the past 2 1/2 years.
once again - Mac bashing is so much easier when you ignore reality.

Oooo, who knew that the Mac vs. PC topic could be so controverisal? Apparently some people get pretty freakin’ defensive about their computers. It’s just a computer people. It’s going to break in a few years, whether it’s a PC or a Mac. And hey, to each his own. For the record, I think the Apple ads are hilarious. And yet, I still own two PCs and no Macs.
I like the comic, by the way. And that video Sean linked to…

Personally, I’m a PC man myself. And after seeing these ads, I plan on staying that way. Seriously, since when is a PC all business and no fun? Anything I can do on a Mac, I can probably do on a PC. And I like PCs. And I’m used to Windows. And I can actually play games on a PC.

well your all wrong linux is the best is runs all and is the inspiration for both the new mac and pc os’s not to mention the fact that is what is running mac. oh and don’t forget that neither one is better they just have two different target markets. It is my experiance that which one you like almost falls right along the line of those markets. The point really is neither one is better there different. Also as a final note neither one would be what they are without the other.

Altering facts? Pscht. The amount of utter crap that Mac spouts. They go from bending the truth to outright lying so many times it’s unbelievable. “Making Mac adverts- it’s so much easier when you just alter facts to suit yourselves”
Don’t get me wrong, I like Apple. They make good products. The iPod completely changed the way people listen to music on a daily massive. It’s impact is massive.
And I’m aware that macs have right click capability. But their standard laptops come with one mouse key. Mac bashing is easier when you ignore reality, but mac arragonce is also a hell of a lot easier when you ignore reality. I hate mac fans that can’t hear a bad word said about macs, and when they spout their fundamentalist drivel about the all hallowed mac. Seriously, I don’t take that crap from Jehovah’s Witnesses, why should I take it from them. I half expect to open my door one day to have a mac boy wanting to talk to be about the wonders of Mac and how I’d be happier if I converted.

Well I thought it was funny, I’ve owned a mac, it was my very first laptop, but after about three months my family gave me a pc laptop for Christmas that had been much cheaper, and probably a lot older. I ended up giving my mac away. But really, it is just a computer, and doesn’t Microsoft own part of Apple?
December 21st, 2007 at 5:47 pm
*ahem* in response to the post linking to a cartoon about the reasons macs do not get viruses…..
The main reason that viruses are not made for macs is NOT because of thier small market share but because of the fact that the mac OS is based off of Unix (not linux) which is a much more secure OS than windows. windows was great when it first came out, but microsoft has yet to go back through the 55 million lines of code that make up windows and fix some glaring holes…
oh and macs arnt just for play, the office i work in has 2 PCs for testing purposes, and about 30 macs (including the local server) that all the work gets done on
annnd just for the record i use an 8 button logitech mouse with my mac :p
December 26th, 2007 at 3:36 am
Wow. I am reading this stuff from a pentium 3 processor. I just got a new camcorder for Christmas and I would like to have a Mac for some serious editing and recording some music that I have written. My room is already soundproofed and a Mac would be great for recording. I like both of them but would only use the Mac for these purposes and maybe for faster internet surfing
January 26th, 2008 at 7:37 am
Okay, so hang on.
I read the comment about how Macs are easier to use and that “You just get right into it and start working.”
Now, when I turn on my PC, and want to… let’s say open the internet, there’s a handy little button on something called the “Quick Launch” bar, which has my internet on it, as well as all the apps I normally use.
So if I can access all the applications that I ever use by clicking ONE BUTTON, and Macs are EASIER to use than this, then what? Are Macs psychic? Will a Mac open up my internet BEFORE I click anything?
January 27th, 2008 at 7:23 pm
I’m sitting on a Mac right now. I hate the Mac vs PC adverts because they’re another example of Apple moving towards being a capitalistic corporation and leaving its roots of being the alternative, obscure company that produced computers used by the black sheep of the community (i.e. me) so that they (we) seemed even more alternative and obscure … heh :-P
Also, Raven, yes a Mac CAN open and connect to the internet before you click anything. Its called “Open at Login” and you can set any application (I have iTunes and Mail) set to do it so that as soon as you switch on, you’re away.
And yes, I do know that you can do this with XP too. I use XP for gaming on using Boot Camp.
And let nobody forget that if it wasn’t for the popularity of the Macintosh, Microsoft (who at the beginning only made software not operating systems) wouldn’t have gotten its foothold into the business, because the Mac platform is where Microsoft sold most of its software pre-Windows.
February 12th, 2008 at 7:49 am
Well, I have two (2) PC’s @ home (quite new both of them, no problems so far because of the overuse - tough love!) and I’ll just have to say that I ♥ Mac’s… What’s wrong with trying to/and be cool and trendy???
February 16th, 2008 at 5:41 pm
WAIT TILL ME DAD SEES THIS
March 30th, 2008 at 7:36 pm
I use a PC myself.
And this argument is about as fun as sticking a number of blunt untensils into my belly button and playing simon says.
According to Apple the Mac is the “Father of computing” when I think Will said earlier “the Mac platform is where Microsoft sold most of its software pre-Windows”
This software was used to create Mac and apple..
So technically isn’t microsoft the winner overall?
Also, yes whoever said it, Bill gates bought Majority share in apples market, or near enough. Which means he can vito anything they plan to do.. which is always nice.

Er… I wish people would stop saying “PC” to mean Windows. “PC” is personal computer. This includes macs. I’m on a Windows laptop at the moment, even though there is a desktop computer sitting right next to me. Why? Because the desktop computer is a mac, and it’s shitty. Admittedly it is extra shitty because it’s so old, but even so. Macs can be as good as Windows… when they run Windows as well as the mac OS. And only then. Otherwise, you’re fucked compatibility-wise, and also with being able to run any sort of entertainment apart from crazy 3d-ish chess.

Well this comic started.. HELL :) IMOO PC´s are better than Macs if u can give them some love, if u just need to go online or something easy annd wanna be trendy about it i guess a mac works for you. But hell i´d rather learn a bit about the PC and enjoy the versatility and lower price than go mac. Also this whole “trendy” thing is getting stupid cuz you can find PCs and Windows Laptops in any form and colour today.
