Over the pond

I kid you not; an American actually asked me why I wasn’t doing anything to celebrate independence day. And she knows I’m British. And I’m pretty confident she was being serious…

I busted my hand playing ball with my brother, it’s just the one finger, but it hurts like hell. I guess that will teach Since it wasn’t going to look great anyway, what with my bad finger I’m holding the pen like it’s some kind of fragile chine pen, I figured I’d try something new with the art. Let me know what you think…

Oh, and check out the blog entry I posted about rss feeds.

For most non-americans, this is just plain arrogance+ignorance….. For the British, it’s plain insulting! Who do the Americans think they fought for independence???? ;)

Independence Day - isn’t that the day when Will Smith saved the earth from some scrawny little aliens?

We had Canada day a little while ago, and I remember an American asked me why we didn’t celebrate canada day when they celebrated their independance too, so we’d remember the day better.
Is the whole population stupid, or just a select few?

I’m from Canada, and my History class once spent an entire day (teacher and all) discussing the stupidity of Americans. It was a good day.

The ratio of stupid Americans to Smart Americans is around 9/1, its amazing the types of stupidity you come across over their

Hey! There are some smart Americans…they just moved to different countries, like I did. Because they are smart. :D

America is an amazing place. People look at you with the same level of bafflement if you explain that all asians aren’t chinese as they would if you tell them about Schrodinger’s cat. I tried to explain how you could walk from alaska to russia at certain points in the year and got the same “Oh. Ok” smiling yet blank response as if I’d told someone I was the third tzar of the ocarina people from the musical land of timbuctoo. Eejits.

I’ve never actually seen this kind of stupidity before. I mean I’m Canadian, and I’ve been to the states a few times but I have never seen anything this stupid. I mean I get the “Why don’t you celebrate the same thanksgiving” but not “Why don’t you celebrate independence day”. I say these Americans are too stupid to even realize why they started celebrating the day.

Not all of us Americans are that stupid. There are a lot more of the stupid ones than the smart ones. And not all of the smart ones moved to other countries. Some of us are too poor to.

I DO actually know some smart Americans. not a lot, but enough to know they exist. ;)

The first example of this I found assured me he’d voted against Bush as part of the proof of his non-retardedness. The fact that he easily beat me at chess helped his case, too.

Okay well being an American, i need to throw in my 2 cents here. Sounds like you all are trying to stereotype us all into the category of idiots and that is just not the case. And no…not all the smart Americans have moved to other countries. It’s very hard to find the smart ones when the TV reporters head straight to the ones with no shirts and no teeth to interview so that makes us all look like a bunch of retards. Blame the media!

@dylan it’s “over there” not “over their”

It’s probably a slightly unfair stereotype, there are probably a lot of intelligent Americans.
However, the issue is that there are definitely a LOT of stupid ones who seem to also be very outspoken about things, which is unfortunate as their opinion leads everyone else to believe America is a Xenophobic monster nation while the intelligent half of the population shakes their heads sadly and has to defend their country online from every OTHER country who’s seen the idiots and believes they know how the country works.

Having said that, I also add, UK FTW!!
